Fundamentalism's Secret Program

Are we under attack, not from without, but from within?

Are the real enemies religious zealots, fundamentalists, fascists?

Check out Jeff Sharlet's new book: The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power."

Having spent a good part of my life in Michigan, I've gotten to know something of the West Michigan cabal of right wing Christians - legends in their own minds, they're right, they're powerful, they're well-connected, and they are utterly convinced of their lock on Jesus and politics - since they can do no wrong, there is no inherent reflection or caution, but only full-speed ahead with their agenda, and all opposition be damned. Linked with a strange element within Dutch Calvinism - that wealth proves the blessing of God - these mega-rich folks have no sense of restraint. How could they? They are blessed by God; every dollar they have proves the point of their righteousness.

Blackwater, the insidious "private army" is headed by a man who grew up in the wealth and ideology of Western Michigan - Erik Prince - from the Prince family, a super-rich family hidden away in Western Michigan religious circles.

If anyone reading this post has read, or plans to read Sharlet's book, leave a comment.

I'm getting it this afternoon.
